Significance of Computer and Information Security Research
Although public and private
sector enterprises in Australia
have become increasingly computerised, there is still insufficient awareness of
computer and information security requirements.
Mission Statement
To provide a reservoir of expertise in
computer, information and communications security for Australia.
Aims and Objectives
- Provide appropriate
encryption algorithms and protocols for public use;
- Determine the standard of
security employed by computer centres operating in the public/private
sector and gauge the extent of computer abuse;
- Provide an independent
accreditation authority to certify algorithms and corporate security
standards, identify potential areas of risk for computer users and assist
corporations to develop computer security policy;
- Act as a reservoir of
expertise in computer, information and communications security for Australia.
- Work within the CRC for
Smart Internet Technologies to ensure that the Research Theme of Security
and Privacy is integral within all research programs;
- Develop hardware and
software for secure speech, signal processing and network communications;
- Advise governments and the
community on new innovations which impinge on computer security;
- Train computer scientists
lawyers, patent personnel and others in areas related to cryptology,
financial networking, computer crime, risk assessment, disaster recovery
and general corporate security needs.
- The University of
Wollongong, The Centre for Computer and Information Security Research is a
premier centre in the world in its knowledge and ability to train in the
above areas and will be the key to initiating and implementing innovations
in computer security with possible national security and commercial
security implications.
