ePOC Project Chief Investigator 1 (CI1) ePOC Project Chief Investigators (CI) ePOC Project Partner Investigators (PI) ePOC Project Team Members Professor Peter EKLUND BMaths (Hons) (W'gong); MPhil (Brighton); PhD (Linkoping) Head, Information Systems, Faculty of Commerce, University of Wollongong Peter Eklund is Chair of Information Systems and Head of the Information Systems Discipline in the School of Economic and Information Systems. Prior to taking up this appointment in December 2004, Peter was a Professorial Fellow in the Faculty of Informatics at the UoW. Peter is founder of the Knowledge, Visualization and Ordering Laboratory. Before joining The University Wollongong (his alma mater), Peter was Chair of Computer Science at the University of Queensland, an elected member to the UQ's Academic Board, Chair of the Queensland Studies Authority Subject Advisory Committee for Computer Studies and a Research Leader in the EDST CRC. Peter also served as the Foundation Chair of Information Technology at Griffith University from 1998 until 2002, and is also a consultant to the Australian and US Department's of Defence. He has held Visiting Professorial appointments at INRIA in France and Hosei University in Japan. Peter is on the Board of the Semantic Web Science Foundation, the Editorial Boards of Journal of Web Intelligence and Agent Systems and the International Conferences on Conceptual Structures and Formal Concept Analysis. Peter also serves on the program committees of the technical track of the World Wide Web and Knowledge Representation conferences and the Australian Document Computing Symposium. His interests are in the practical application of Formal Concept Analysis to Knowledge Management problems. Software design and engineering form a crucial part of the research lifecycle. Professor Joan COOPER BMaths(Hons), PhD Newcastle Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Flinders University, Adelaide Professor Joan Cooper was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Flinders University in September 2003. She was previously Dean of Informatics at the University of Wollongong, where she had also served as Chair of University Senate. Professor Cooper has more than 20 years’ experience in information technology and was the first female professor of IT appointed in Australia. Her most recent research has been in the field of electronic commerce and health informatics, and she was coordinator of the University of Wollongong’s Centre for Electronic Business Research. She is one of the three founders of Australia's first inter-university electronic commerce research and consulting group CollECTeR (Collaborative Electronic Commerce Technology and Research) and was National Deputy Chair of Women in Technology – a special interest group of ACS. She also was a member of the NSW Privacy Advisory Committee. While coming from an area of technical and scientific research, Professor Cooper also has had extensive experience in the social sciences and has developed a thorough knowledge of relevant research methodologies. She has researched, taught and consulted in both technical and theoretical areas, as well as in areas that are more managerial and policy oriented. This unusual aspect of her experience helps her to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical practitioners in industry. Professor Cooper completed her Bachelor of Mathematics (Honours) and Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Newcastle. She is a member of ACS (The Australian Computer Society), a Foundation member of the Institute of Combinatorics and its Applications (FICA) and a member of IEEE. She also is Associate Editor of the Journal of Research and Practice in Information Technology. Associate Professor Carole ALCOCK BA, GradDipLib, AALIA, PhD W'gong Associate Head: Teaching and Learning School of Computer and Information Science, University of South Australia, Australia Carole Alcock is an Associate Professor in the School of Computer and Information Science at the University of South Australia where she is Associate Head of School. Her recent research in the health sphere has included the integrity of electronic health records, recent changes to privacy legislation in relation to health records, and the application of Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) within the health sector. She has received a number of grants in areas relating to health Research, most recently as one of the chief investigators on an ARC Industry Linkage Grant on the application of PDAs in Ambulatory Care with Illawarra Area Health Services and Pen Computing. She is a member of the Health Informatics group within the Advanced Computing Research Centre at the University of South Australia and also works with Health Informatics Research groups at the University of Wollongong. Lois BURGESS PhD, BInfoTech(Hons) W'gong University of Wollongong Lois Burgess is a Senior lecturer in the School of Management and Marketing at the University of Wollongong. She has lectured IT Strategic Planning, Business Online and E-Commerce, Security, Risk Management and Control. Lois has 20 years experience in the public sector holding positions in Administration Management, Personnel and Training and Development. Research Interests include: Online Service Quality, Electronic Commerce, Smart Card Applications in E-commerce and Health, Mobile e-health Applications, Telecommunications, IT Strategic Planning and On-line Information Services. Lois is a member of the Centre for Health Service development and CollECTeR, and has numerous publications in the areas of e-health and e-Commerce. Her current research efforts centre on the adoption of the Internet and Web by businesses in the Regional Tourism Industry sector. Dr Damian RYAN MBBS, FRACGP Post Graduate Medical Certificate in Weight Control and Obesity Management Medical Director, The Ambulatory Care Team (TACT) Northern Illawarra, Wollongong Conjoint Lecturer UNSW, Damian is a medical graduate from Sydney University who has worked for IAHS since 1992. Damian has experience in Emergency Medicine and General Practice. He became a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 1999. Damian was selected for the position of Medical Director of Ambulatory Care Northern Illawarra (TACT) in March 1999. Since then, TACT has grown to one of the largest Ambulatory Care services in Australia. Damian is also involved in medical education both at an undergraduate and post graduate level. He was appointed a Conjoint Lecturer of the University of NSW in 2001 and has been an examiner for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners for five years. Tarkan SHAHHO BEng (Hons) Computer Systems Engineering Senior Software Engineer, Pen Computer Systems Pty Ltd, Parramatta, Australia Tarkan is a software engineer with career interest in primary health systems. His specialist interest beyond software development is in data communications, network engineering and messaging. He has active project experience in the use of mobile computer systems spanning, Newton, Windows CE, and more recent Windows mobile computing environments for both PDA's and Windows tablets. He is a member of HL7 Australia. Dr Jean EVANS Quals Chief Information Officer, South Eastern Sydney Illawarra Area Health Service (SESIAHS) John JOHNSTON BSc, DipSci, AIMM Managing Director, Pen Computer Systems Pty Ltd, Parramatta, Australia John is a biological sciences graduate with a career interest in health information systems for the primary health sector. In his role as a health informatician John has a specialist interest in population health, systems to assist chronic disease prevention and management, and electronic clinical decision support. Jennifer Miller Quals Nurse Unit Manager, The Ambulatory Care Team (TACT) Northern Illawarra. South Eastern Sydney Illawarra Area Health Service (SESIAHS) Amanda RYAN BE (SW Engineering), MDigMmedia W'gong PhD candidate, Information Systems (SISAT), University of Wollongong Jason SARGENT BInfoTech(Hons) W'gong, DipIT (Network Engineering), DipIT (PC & Network Support) with Distinction Research Assistant, School of Information Systems and Technology (SISAT), University of Wollongong Jason holds First Class Honours for the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology (Hons) degree, professional membership with the Health Informatics Society of Australia (HISA)and is a member of the Centre for Health Service Development (CHSD) at UOW. He has presented to CEOs, CIOs, Medical Directors and Clinicians at conferences in Australia and authored/ co-authored papers for conferences in America, Germany, Italy, China and Chile. His work has been published in health informatics and eCommerce texts and also Online. |
